  1. The two best performances of the ’50s – from ’50 to ’59 – were Oscar-nominated in 1951. Vivien Leigh won her second best actress for “A Streetcar Named Desire” (the best performance not only of the ’50s but of all time), and Montgomery Clift was nominated for “A Place in the Sun”. Monty, alas, lost the best actor Oscar to Bogie in “The African Queen”.
